All about External Printed Site Hoardings

External Printed Site Hoardings have become a common site around construction sites across the towns and cities of the UK in the last ten years or so.

In the simplest terms, external printed site hoardings are a cost effective method of transforming the perimeter of a new build or refurbishment project helping to draw attention to the project and attracting interest from passing traffic.

External printed site hoardings are easy to organise and in most cases they are usually printed and installed in less than two weeks from an original instruction.

Our established team at the Image Group have been supplying external printed site hoardings for over a decade and have the appropriate experience to advise on all aspects of this product and service such as.

  • Surveys
  • Planning consents and road closures
  • Material choices
  • File and print issues such as photo resolution
  • Health and safety requirements including risk assessments and method statements
  • Installation and access

If you're considering using an external printed site hoarding and are wondering where to start, we always recommend a site survey to begin with. This allows us to consider the ground conditions at your site and any issues surround installation access and plant requirements.

Most development sites will have some changes in ground level from one end of the site to another. An accurate survey allows us to factor this into the finished presentation.

We generally finish our external printed site hoardings with what is know as a header and kicker. These headers and kickers are small top and tail panels – usually colour co-ordinated with the main design scheme. Headers and kickers allow us to hide any differences in ground level and present the finished printed scheme as if the ground were completely flat.

Another important aspect of an accurate survey is recommending the correct choice of material for your project. Where a development is likely to last more than six months our standard recommendation would be to use a material call Dibond. Dibond is a flat composite aluminium sheet material that is warranted against warping or water ingress. We can print directly to this sheet material at a very high resolution using UV inks. These inks are also warranted against light fade and water damage.

If your development is likely to bed finished in under six months we would usually recommend a sheet material call Fluted Polypropylene – sometimes known as Correx. Fluted poypropylene is a rigid sheet material that is lightweight, rigid, waterproof and strong. We also provide printed samples free of charge to allow you to assess the correct material choice.

From time to time we have helped organise planning consents for external printed site hoardings. Typical reasons for this would be projects where listed buildings are involved, National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Conservation Areas, the Broads, or Areas of Special Control of Advertisements. For information relating to planning consents and issues surrounding permissions please visit: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/outdoor-advertisements-and-signs-a-guide-for-advertisers Alternatively, contact us for extra help and advice.

After your survey is complete, we usually provide an accurate set of drawings and site specific specifications and costings within a day or so. If you're happy with the results and all details are confirmed, we can usually begin the printing process. We run double day shifts in our print and finishing facility which means we can usually turn around the biggest printed site hoarding projects very quickly. We estimate our print capacity to be in the excess of 2000sq.m of photo quality printing direct to sheet materials in any one day. To put that into a different context – it equates to around 600 quantity - 8 feet by 4 feet printed panels per day, giving us capacity for even the biggest project.

The next stage in delivering your external printed site hoardings is to satisfy any health and safety requirements prior to our own experienced installation teams arriving at your site. We provide comprehensive method statements and risk assessments to ensure the safety of our own and other contractors as well as members of the general public. We provide this documentation within the prices we quote – so no hidden extras.

Once our method statements and risk assessments have been approved we will schedule your installation. Our fitting teams are all experienced in the supply and install of printed hoarding panels. Our installation teams are also qualified to industry standards with CSCS and IPAF accreditation. We take the headache out of any access issues on your behalf with the provision of cherry pickers, scissor lifts and mobile platforms as required.

We've worked hard to make the provision of external printed site hoardings a straightforward process. We can usually provide headline quotes within a matter of minutes – prior to the survey stage. Our standard fee for a site survey is around £400.00 + vat. This fee is refunded upon receipt of your official order.

We estimate that the team at Image Group have produced and installed a whopping amount of external printed hoarding panels over the past sixteen years – somewhere in excess of 200 kilometres. So, if you need help with your site hoarding requirements, call one of our experienced, friendly sales and account managers today. Our advice is free and without obligation.
